Love Parks Week Has Something For Everyone!

Being in open green spaces has been said to improve your general well being,  physical  health and mental health.

Open spaces are great for people with spectrum conditions to de-stress and unwind. Why not take advantage of the ‘Love Parks Week’ and Leeds’ involvement with it.

Below is a list of events and activities that take part throughout the summer holidays this year, 2014.

Also, Leeds ABC support group has regular meetings for families with a member on the Autistic Spectrum. They are held on Wednesdays throughout the Summer holidays. Click this link to visit their website to contact them and find out more. The first meeting is on the Wednesday the 23rd of July 2014 at Temple Newsam Park (11am till 2pm).

About ‘Love Parks Week’ from their own website:

Love Parks Week began in 2006 with a simple aim: to encourage people to visit, enjoy and take pride in their local parks and green spaces, driving the message that our parks and green spaces are essential to healthy, happy and strong communities.

In our first year we had 240 events with 96,000 attendees. Over the last six years the campaign made huge steps forward, building up to 1,100 events and 1.4 million participants last year and wow what a year it was with an enormous range of events taking place, most of which were free, making a great start to the school holidays for families.

The Love Parks Week aim has always been to raise awareness of the importance of parks and green spaces, showcasing the benefits they bring and highlighting the need for continual investment and engagement. Sadly, as the nation comes to realise the benefits green spaces bring to our lives and communities, funding is being dramatically reduced.

This year Love Parks Week will be ramping up its fight for parks and encouraging the creation of a year round movement with a launch of a new brand – ‘Love Parks’, after all a park is for life not just for summer.

Our Park Health Check will continue to be promoted amongst parks users, event organisers and managing authorities, enabling us to make a comparison on last year’s findings.
